Let's EAT! Cooking classes for grades 6-12 currently meets in the kitchen at the Kids
Connections' house. Students ride the bus to the house and are picked up by parents.
GOALS
" To provide cooking classes and nutritional information for children
" To provide meals and recipes for the foods that children have access to
" To provide social and intergenerational experiences during the classes
" To improve communication skills with others
" To learn proper table etiquette
OBJECTIVES
At the end of 6 sessions, students will be able to:
1. Make wise food choices.
By providing basic nutrition information
2. Prepare healthy meals and healthy snacks
By teaching food preparation appropriate for age of student and
By providing easy to prepare recipes
3. Handle and store food safely.
By providing written and oral information
4. Work safely around kitchen appliances and sharp utensils
By providing oral & written information, and "hands-on" opportunities.
Six Session Overview
1. Kitchen safety
2. Food pyramid
3. Reading and understanding food labels
4. Fats and a healthy diet / proper food storage
5. Carbs and fiber
6. Vitamins and minerals
Weekly Lesson Format
1. Nutritional Information presentation (15 minutes)
2. Food Preparation (1 hour) All meals are prepared in an electric skillet!
3. Meal (30 minutes)
4. Clear tables / Clean up (15 minutes)
