One of KC's programs is STUDY BUDDIES. These after school homework
assistance sessions are tailored just for middle schoolers in need of some extra
academic support. At Study Buddies students can access computers, receive
homework assistance, interact with positive role models and learn how to be
successful in middle school.
The Study Buddies schedule is as follows:
" Mondays for 8th graders only
" Tuesdays for 7th graders only
" Wednesdays for 6th graders only
" Special field trips/learning activities on designated Fridays
" Daily sessions run 2:50pm-5:00pm as follows:
" 2:55pm Students arrive on the local school bus
" 3:00pm-3:20pm Snack, relax, group discussion time
" 3:20pm-4:30pm Homework assistance and computer time
" 4:30pm-4:45pm Independent reading or individual student help
" 4:45pm-5:00pm Games, free time, dismissal to parents
High school students volunteer as tutors and mentors. Two adult volunteers
monitor sessions, help with homework and serve as role models for all of the kids.
ALL volunteers are screened and required to attend an orientation/training
session.
Class sizes are limited to 9 students per session and offered on a first-come,
first-served basis.
